Animal Welfare Coalition
The Animal Welfare Coalition was established in 2006 by several animal welfare groups working throughout the Philippines. They came together as a united front to strengthen their voice and power in addressing animal issues within their country.
AWC has creatively and successfully pooled their expertise, resources and passion to assist in the advancement of animal welfare issues such as the illegal dog meat trade, animal control, pet care and euthanasia.
Their combined voice has become a player in the political and legal system, lobbying to enhance and adopt legislation that protects animals. They had an essential role in getting the recent Anti-Rabies Act passed, a law that addresses pet overpopulation, animal cruelty and the dog meat trade.
HSI partnered with AWC in 2008 to put on a mass training in veterinary surgery, humane capture and handling, euthanasia and disaster response.
In 2009, we partnered with them once again to educate shelter workers throughout the country in efficient and humane shelter management, a program that will impact thousands of animals.
HSI applauds AWC for their diligence and commitment to improving the lives of animals in the Philippines.
