    Bill to Improve Animal Protection in Canada Introduced

    Survey Results in China Reveal Strong Public Support for Pangolin Protection

    A poll by the Aita Foundation and HSI found that more than 80 percent of Chinese public agree that consuming pangolins for food or for medicinal purposes should be banned. Additionally, 90 percent of those surveyed expressed their willingness to partake in pangolin protection activities.

    Netherlands Applauded for Introducing EU's Strictest Ban on Trophy Hunting Imports

    HSI/Europe applauded the Dutch State Secretary for Economic Affairs for banning the import of hunting trophies from approximately 200 species to the Netherlands. The European Union is the second largest trophy importer in the world, following the United States, and this now means the Netherlands has the most comprehensive trophy import ban in the EU.

    Ontario Government Scraps Proposal to Increase Hunting of Wolves and Coyotes

    HSI/Canada applauded the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for scrapping a plan to allow increased killing of wolves and coyotes across the province. The poorly-conceived proposal was branded as an effort to protect moose populations, yet even the province’s own data showed that the indiscriminate killing of predators is not an effective wildlife management practice.
