Animal testing is an ugly business. From lipstick to antibiotics to rat poison—chemicals and products of all descriptions are still being force-fed in massive doses to mice, rabbits and other animals.
The European Union made history by banning cosmetic testing on animals, but in countries such as Brazil, China and the United States, the suffering continues. In other product sectors, dozens of different animal tests can be required for a single product, including the widely condemned “lethal dose” test.
HSI is working with scientists, policy makers and corporations worldwide to achieve dramatic reductions in animal test requirements and speed up acceptance and use of animal-free alternatives.
