In November 2009, HSI's former president, Patricia Forkan, spoke at the book launch for "Opportunities and Obligations: New Perspectives on Global and U.S. Trade Policy" at the National Press Club. Ms. Forkan authored an esssay included in the book on animal protection and international trade.

On May 8th, ABC's 20/20 aired a segment that provided the viewpoint of some who believe that the way to save tigers is to farm them, kill them, and sell their parts into trade. Humane Society International and The Humane Society of the United States reject this view.
