Humane Society International/United Kingdom is pleased to take part in the inaugural International Conference on Dog Population Management. The four-day conference brings together members of the public, ecologists, economists and specialists in animal welfare, animal health and education to discuss humane and sustainable strategies for addressing global street dog issues.

HSI is on both the steering and scientific committees charged with organising the event. HSI staff including Andrew Rowan, president, HSI, and Joy Lee, street animal programme consultant, will present scientific papers highlighting data and lessons learned from HSI’s street animal welfare projects from around the world. HSI has also sponsored international experts to present at the conference on their various global projects and studies.

“This important conference will provide a unique opportunity for organisations and individuals from all parts of the world involved in humane dog population management  to come together and share expertise and experience,” said Mark Jones, veterinarian and executive director HSI UK. “Humane Society International is proud to be a sponsor, co-host and contributor.”

 Goals of the conference include:

  • Development of a coordinated and interdisciplinary approach to dog population management;
  • An increased awareness of novel technologies for countries and research groups;
  • Dissemination of the results of research and practical applications between scientists, stakeholders and policy makers;
  • Introduction of more effective and economic methods of managing zoonotic disease.

Conference organisers include Food and Environment Research Agency, the World Health Organisation, the World Organisation for Animal Health, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the World Society for the Protection of Animals, the International Fund for Animal Welfare and HSI.
