Guatemala launches Animal Welfare Unit to help implement animal welfare law
HSI has praised the launch of the Animal Welfare Unit in Guatemala responsible for implementing the nation’s landmark Animal Welfare and Protection Law and associated regulations, which went into effect in September 2017. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food will house the Unit.

HSI welcomes Nestlé announcement setting dates for its complete transition to cage-free eggs in Latin America, Oceania, Middle East and Africa
Nestlé, the world’s largest food company, announced that it will complete this transition in Europe by 2020 and in Latin America, Oceania, Middle East, and Africa by 2025. The company had previously committed to completing its transition to a cage-free supply chain in the U.S. by 2020, and in Canada by 2025.

개에게 1년간 매일 농약 먹이는 실험, 한국만 유일하게 허용하는 국가로 남을 것인가
전 세계적으로 농약, 화학물질 등에 대한 동물실험을 줄이거나 이를 대체할 수 있는 시험법 개발을 위한 노력이 이어지고 있다. 이 가운데 국제동물보호단체 휴메인 소사이어티 인터내셔널 (Humane Society International, HSI)은 국내 정부도 국제적으로 논란이 많은 비글을 이용한 농약 시험을 시험 필수 조항에서 제외할 것을 촉구한다. 이 실험은 개에게 1년간 매일 농약이 들어간 음식을 강제로 먹이고, 개의 내부 장기가 어떤 영향을 받는지 보기 위해 실험 종료 시 해부를 한다.
