HSI Canada, joined by Canadian and European Parliamentarians called upon the Canadian government to withdraw its World Trade Organization challenge against the EU ban on seal product trade. The Parliamentarians urged the Canadian government to support Atlantic Canadian sealers and their families by implementing a federal buyout of the commercial sealing industry.

At the Canada European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement negotiations, more than 100 Members of the European Parliament signed an open letter to the Canadian government stating that the European Parliament should not support CETA until Canada withdraws its WTO challenge against the EU seal product trade ban.
