Update, April 16, 2016: Based on a call to our tipline, that Delhi police tracked down and arrested a suspect, who was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Science for examination. We will work the police and public prosecutor to ensure that the offender gets jail time and, if appropriate, psychiatric intervention.

A reward of 100,000 INR is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person shown on CCTV footage stabbing and hacking three puppies near Green Park Metro. Humane Society International/India and Fauna Police are jointly offering the reward.

The Case: On 15th March 2016, the CCTV camera of a store located opposite the Green Park Metro captured a horrific act of cruelty. A man was luring puppies and dogs with bits of food only to grab them to stab and hack them. The video showed the young unidentified male luring and then stabbing a puppy multiple times before ripping the dog into two. Dogs who approached the man were also stabbed and grievously injured. A similar incident is reported to have occurred in the Gautham Nagar neighborhood of New Delhi where dogs were seen with stab wounds. Fauna Police volunteers suspect that it is the same person.

Animal Cruelty: Getting the serious attention of law enforcement, prosecutors and the community in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the public. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault. A First Information Report has been registered in this case asking police for a thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrator of this heinous crime is caught and punished.

N.G. Jayasimha, managing director of HSI/India, said, “A man who is so barbaric as to mutilate puppies in an open street is nothing but a threat to the society. This incident exposes the violent nature of this man and it’s essential for the safety of the stray animals and the society that this man is put behind bars. Bringing this perpetrator to book will set a precedent for future wrongdoers. We are hopeful that this reward will urge anyone with information about this man to step forward and talk to us. We are working with the Fauna Police and the appropriate police officials to see that this person is apprehended at the earliest."

Anyone with information about this case is requested to call the Fauna Police at +91 9212111116.
