Protection for Hares Introduced in Scotland
The first of February 2012 saw a watershed for hare protection in Scotland. The introduction of Wildlife and Natural Environment Act 2011 makes it an offence to intentionally or recklessly kill, injure or take brown hares from 1 February to 30 September, and mountain hares from 1 March to 31 July.

The celebrities support HSI’s “Cruelty-Free Christmas Pledge,” and have joined HSI in suggesting a range of festive and animal-friendly options, from having a veggie Christmas lunch to refusing to buy animals as gifts.

HSI Commends European Commission for its Proposal to End Shark Finning
HSI Europe applauds the European Commission for adopting a strong draft legislative proposal on shark finning. The new legislation would ensure that all sharks caught by EU vessels anywhere in the world must be landed with their fins naturally attached to their carcasses, without exception.
