Karla Johanna Duarte
COUNTRY DIRECTOR, HONDURAS
Prior to joining HSI, Karla worked as an environmental prosecutor for the Public Ministry of Honduras and was founder and president of the Honduran Association for the Protection of Animals and their Environment (AHPRA). In her previous role, she was responsible for promoting the implementation and enforcement of the country’s Animal Welfare and Protection Law, and she investigated and filed complaints in cases of animal cruelty and crimes against wildlife. She now collaborates with authorities in the development of investigations. Karla provides trainings on national legislation and on animal protection for public officials, and she supports and coordinates with government authorities in confiscations/rescues of wildlife. Her goals are to establish an anti-cruelty platform in Honduras and to improve awareness of the importance of animal protection among the country’s citizens.
