Tanuja Basnet holds a master’s degree in social anthropology. She has served various NGOs and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal. She has led anti-slavery, anti-child marriage and anti-discrimination campaigns in Nepal. Development of human rights, law and policy, promotion of international human rights mechanisms and inclusion of marginalized people’s issues in government plans and programs are the key areas where Tanuja has significantly contributed. For HSI, Tanuja leads planning, implementation and monitoring of Nepal’s animal welfare program, which includes policy advocacy, campaigning, capacity enhancement, fighting cruelty to animals and protecting wildlife.
