Tony Gerrans manages HSI’s programs in southern Africa and works to expand the organization’s reach across the African continent. He’s especially interested in helping farm animals and accelerating law reform to better protect all animals.

Gerrans holds bachelor’s degrees in sociology and law, a post-graduate diploma in business administration and a master’s degree in animal law from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Before joining HSI, he was part of the team researching and advising the post-apartheid Commission on Restitution of Land Rights. He has also served as a trustee of the Humane Education Trust and helped establish a farm animal sanctuary in Franschhoek. Gerrans lives in Cape Town with his partner, Lorraine, and their three rescue dogs.
