Millions of stray dogs roam the streets worldwide. Too often, governments deal with this overpopulation through cruel means such as poisoning, electrocution and shooting. Help support our efforts to improve this situation by donating to our Street Animal Welfare Program.
HSI is working in a number of developing countries to extend a philosophy of humane animal control, providing guidance in creating programs that focus on spay/neuter, vaccination, education and training.
A good animal control program should enforce laws, rescue mistreated animals, humanely euthanize animals who are suffering and untreatable, promote licensing of pets, and provide low-cost sterilization. Finally, a successful program must deter future problems through raising awareness and understanding of the issues.
HSI is collaborating with local organizations and governments to implement solutions that will protect both people and animals.
