The Humane Society of the United States/Humane Society International’s Animal Care Expo combines a world-class educational and networking conference with a full-scale international trade show on all things related to dog and cat care and population management. The goal of this annual event is to help people working in the fields of animal sheltering, care, control, and rescue do the best and most effective jobs possible. This four-day event offers specialized workshops in areas such as management, field services, shelter operations and community outreach.
International program
Since 1999, animal advocates from across the globe have come together to participate in Animal Care Expo. There is a separate track, Global Spotlight, organized by Humane Society International, which caters to the specific needs of participants working outside the United States.
Animal Care Expo 2023
The next Animal Care Expo will be held April 3-6, 2023 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A. The Global Spotlight track is geared towards participants from around the world. All Global Spotlight sessions will be live-streamed, recorded and available to both in-person and virtual participants for on-demand viewing after the conference. Seven additional sessions on a variety of topics, offered by the Humane Society of the United States, will also be live-streamed, recorded and available on-demand.
Select sessions will include:
- A day-long program — Street smart: How technology and data analytics help improve street animal management
- How to hold successful, high-volume adoption events when you don’t have a facility
- Application and techniques of a successful community cat program
- In it for the long haul: Combatting compassion fatigue and enhancing resiliency
A waiver of the registration fee for virtual attendance and a discounted in-person registration fee of $US 50 is available for residents of those countries identified as “Economies in Transition” and “Developing Economies” in Tables B & C on pages 153 & 154 here.
HSI scholarship program
Unlike years past, HSI will not offer scholarships to attend Animal Care Expo 2023. We invite animal advocates worldwide to register for virtual attendance and view the live-streamed and recorded Global Spotlight sessions.
HSI veterinary training program
The HSI veterinary training opportunity, which placed veterinarians attending Animal Care Expo with host animal welfare organizations within the United States, will no longer be offered.
For veterinarians from Latin America and the Caribbean, HSI offers a year-round veterinary training program. This hands-on, one-on-one training aims to review the newest and latest in surgical techniques and protocols to provide high-quality spay/neuter surgery to canines and felines. Please note, this training is exclusively for practicing veterinarians. To learn more about this opportunity, please contact Diana Rodriguez.
