1. Who we are and what this notice is about

Humane Society International México, A.C. (“HSI”), a non-profit organization located at Vicente Suárez 73, Col. Condesa, Del. Cuauhtémoc, C.P. 06140, Mexico City, hereby informs users of its https://www.hsi.org website and all its supporters both present and future of the personal data that will be collected in connection with our activities in Mexico, the use to which it will be put and the mechanisms by which we will safeguard access to and the confidentiality of any personal data collected pursuant to the provisions of the Federal Law for the Protection of Personal Data in the Possession of Private Parties (the “Law”) and its regulations.

HSI is an affiliate of Humane Society International, a charitable non-profit organization headquartered at 1255 23rd Street, NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC, USA. One of the largest animal protection organizations in the world, Humane Society International has affiliated organizations in several countries that share a common mission to promote the humane treatment of animals worldwide and foster respect and understanding for all creatures through public education, awareness and direct animal care programs.

For purposes of this privacy notice, “personal data” shall be understood as any information pertaining to a physically identified or identifiable person, while “sensitive personal data” shall be understood as information pertaining to a person’s private life or whose misuse could lead to discrimination or expose them to serious risks.

HSI collects personal data that consists of (i) contact information and (ii) banking and asset information. HSI does not collect sensitive personal data from visitors to its website. In the event you wish to revoke consent to your banking and asset information being used for the purposes stipulated herein, you should notify HSI by sending an e-mail to info-mex@hsi.org within five days after this privacy notice has been brought to your attention.

HSI will treat your personal data as confidential and will refrain from disclosing, selling and/or leasing it to third parties, except under the scenarios described herein.

This notice will be reviewed regularly. HSI reserves the right to modify or amend this privacy notice at any time and for any reason. Please check back frequently with our website https://www.hsi.org to see any updates or changes to this notice.

2. Why do we collect personal information about you?

We collect, hold, process, use, manage, disclose and store (collectively referred to as “use”) your personal data to:

  • Check and confirm the identity of our supporters
  • Keep a record of donations made and actions taken by our supporters and our communications with them
  • Keep our supporters informed of our activities, news, action alerts and fundraising efforts
  • Fulfill contractual obligations entered into with supporters
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Keep a record of potential and existing supporters, donors, so we can identify, locate and contact them, process payments, issue invoices and follow-up on donations
  • Compile a database of HSI donors, suppliers, volunteers and experts for statistical purposes
  • Collect signatures in support of programs and campaigns to get animal welfare laws and public and corporate policies amended.

If you wish to update or remove your consent, or if you do not wish your information to be shared with third parties mentioned in this privacy notice, or for your personal data to be used for marketing, research or to support the aforementioned programs and campaigns, you should e-mail a “Restriction of Processing” request to our Data Protection Department at info-mex@hsi.org. You may also unsubscribe at any time in every issue of our newsletters. Every recipient of our electronic communications can quickly and easily “opt out” of future such communications by following the instructions on any electronic communication we send.

Even if you refuse to consent to your personal data being used for marketing purposes, you shall not be denied HSI products and/or services.

You can also restrict our contacting you by telephone (mobile and/or landline) by signing up on the Federal Consumer Protection Agency’s No Call Registry.

3. How long will we keep your personal data?

Personal data collected from you for direct marketing purposes will be suppressed and we will not market to you if you have not contacted us, taken any action or donated to us for a period of twenty four (24) months.

4. How do we share your personal data?

We do not sell, lease or transfer your personal data to third parties, except under the scenarios and mechanisms described in this privacy notice.

We share your personal data with selected recipients:

  • HSI administrative and accounting consultants, for accounting and tax purposes
  • Fundraising consultants, so we can conduct the activities mentioned in point 2 of this privacy notice
  • CFDI providers, so we can generate e-invoices
  • Cloud storage providers who we use to store our data and other information
  • IT service providers who we use to store our customer relationship management information and to support our advocacy and donor management
  • Analytics service providers to help us to understand and optimize visitor experience
  • Advertisers and advertising networks to select and serve relevant adverts to you and others
  • Card payment providers to facilitate payments via credit/debit cards
  • Mexican officials in charge ofpromoting, modifying, approving or enforcing animal protection laws, if you subscribe to any of our online petitions or pledges or on paper petitions. Please note in this cases information will be limited to your name and nationality.

HSI and the abovementioned suppliers and consultants use secure data storage platforms to safeguard your personal data. Third party service providers have provided HSI with assurances that they process personal information under suitable data protection arrangements and security control and in compliance with applicable law.

Any personal data collected by HSI may be transferred inside Mexico and overseas to controlling companies, subsidiaries and/or affiliated organizations under the common control of the HSI group for the uses described herein.

We will only share your information with law enforcement agencies, public authorities and/or other organizations if legally required to do so by judicial or administrative request.

Other information
HSI also collects information that helps us better understand how visitors use our website (https://www.hsi.org). This information includes your IP address, the URL you are coming from, device information, such as identifier, name and type of operating system, mobile network information and web information such as browser type and pages accessed on the HSI website, which are aggregated for system administration purposes and to monitor the use of our site. We use this aggregated information to measure the number of visits to our website, the average time visitors spend on our site, the number of pages viewed and other site statistics. This monitoring helps us provide our visitors with a more useful, more engaging online experience, and also helps us improve the quality of our content.

HSI uses cookies to make available the results of any searches you perform using the website search functionality. A cookie is a small file sent out by a website, accepted by the user’s browser and placed on the user’s hard drive. HSI does not match any information gathered by cookies with personal information you submitted to HSI through the website . If you do not accept the use of these cookies, you can disable them by changing your browser settings so that cookies from the website cannot be placed on your computer. HSI uses cookies for remarketing purposes with Google AdWords and Google Analytics to display content-specific advertisements to visitors who have previously visited our website when those visitors go to other websites that have the Google Display Network implemented. HSI also uses Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting. These reports disclose website trends without identifying individual visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics without this affecting how you visit our website. HSI uses first- and third-party cookies for re-targeting, where you may see HSI advertisements based on past visits to our website displayed on other sites you visit.

5. How do we safeguard your personal information?

Security
HSI uses generally accepted, industry-standard systems, software and encryption technologies – Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)– for the secure transfer of personal and financial data, and to protect against unauthorized access to HSI servers, equipment and other components of our online presence. Our web servers are hosted off-site at multiple, physically secure facilities with limited access.

HSI takes technical and organizational measures to safeguard your personal data against loss, theft and unauthorized use, access or modification. 6. Your rights

You are entitled to access, rectify, cancel and/or oppose the use of your personal data (“ARCO rights”) under the scenarios provided for by Law and if you have already given consent for your personal data to be used, you are entitled to withdraw it at anytime.

Should you decide to exercise your ARCO rights or withdraw your consent, beyond the information provided in this privacy notice, you can obtain information on the established procedures for doing so by contacting our privacy officer at:

All ARCO requests should include: a) your full name and address or some other means by which HSI México can communicate its response; b) official documents accrediting your identity or, where applicable, that of your proxy; c) a clear, precise description of the ARCO rights being exercised; and d) documents or elements to help locate the personal data in question.

The HSI privacy officer will process all ARCO requests that meet the minimum requirements stipulated in the preceding paragraph.

You may limit the use of your personal data or revoke your consent at any time by following the same procedure described above for the exercising of your ARCO rights. Such requests will also be processed by HSI’s privacy officer.

Changes to our privacy notice

Improper use of personal data
If you feel any conduct or omission by HSI has affected your rights or breached the Law, its regulations or any other applicable legislation, you may initiate a procedure with the National Institute for Transparency, Information Access and Personal Data Protection.
